About us

Mission

To research, preserve, and care for vulnerable marine environments and its species by providing communities with knowledge, training and tools for conservation, protection and economical growth towards a sustainable habitat and a strong community.

Vision

We want to inspire scientists and communities to work together in protecting and bringing in healthy marine ecosystems, through sustainable developments and conservation for co-operation and harmonious quality of life.

Objectives

01.
-
To promote marine conservation and management through scientific research, education and public awareness.

02.
-
To base our findings on sturdy scientific knowledge and circulate these valuable resources to our collaborators, stakeholders and communities.

03.
-
To help in the development of strong communities, providing information, knowledge and support to encourage socio-economic sustainability while striving for a healthy marine ecosystem.

04.
-
To work towards responsible marine activities through the involvement and support of governments, industries, organizations (NGO’s) and communities.

05.
-
To raise consciousness of the marine habitats encounters’ current threats and provide tools to address them

Marine biologist, graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Brunswick, Saint John, Canada. Later obtained a master’s degree in Nordic Marine Ecosystems and Climate from a joint Scandinavian programme. Has worked in different projects around the world, in the field of marine mammal research and conservation, habitat use and distribution, public awareness, education and outreach. Read more

Dr. Jennifer Bachmann

Lead Researcher for WDCP

Jenny fell in love with the ocean at a very young age and whenever possible she would spend her time being at or in the sea. She fulfilled her biggest dream by studying marine biology at Swansea University (UK), where her tutor sparked her interest in marine plankton. So she continued her studies in marine microbiology back in Germany and received a Master and PhD in marine microbiology and biogeochemistry. But her heart has always belonged to the whales, dolphins and sea turtles of the world’s oceans, so she is extremely happy to be leading R&E’s dolphin conservation project now. Read more

Dr. Dalia C. Barragan Barrera

Marine Biologist graduated from the University Jorge Tadeo Lozano and a PhD of Biological Sciences at the University los Andes, both in Colombia. Currently, she is enrolled at Laboratory of Molecular Ecology of Aquatic Vertebrates, led by Susana Caballero PhD and her research is focused on behavior, distribution, habitat use, ecotoxicolgy and genetic structure of cetaceans, mainly bottlenose dolphin in Bocas del Toro (Panama). Research, education, science journalism and conservation are her main interests. Read more

María Angélica Rueda Barajas

Researcher and Project Assistant

I am an Environmental Engineer graduated from the Unidades Tecnologicas de Santander, committed to the protection of the environment, passionate about research, learning, and experimentation. My active participation in the City Nature Challenge reflects my commitment to biodiversity conservation and my desire to contribute to a more sustainable future for all. This initiative provides me with the opportunity to collaborate with other nature enthusiasts and contribute to the collection of scientific data to better understand and protect urban ecosystems. I consider myself a lifelong learner and enjoy experimenting in different áreas.
